Nail Fungus Creams – Does it Work?

Claimed Fungus Treating Nail Creams have been around for many years as a topical nail fungus treatment.

But don’t just drop into your local pharmacy and purchase the latest nail fungus cream in the hope you can save yourself a trip to the doctor for an expensive prescription.

Why Antifungal Nail Creams Don’t Work

Antifungal creams work well for clearing uncomplicated and superficial fungal skin infections such as athletes foot and ring worm.

However they work poorly for treating nail fungus for one simple reason.  Your nails are naturally designed to prevent penetrations and invasions from foreign bodies.

Creams are no different.

One common over the counter (O.T.C.) nail fungus cream is Lamisil.  Lamisil is applied topically on the skin on and around the infected area.

The antifungal cream when smeared on your nail does not penetrate the nail to attack the fungus hiding under the nail.

In some cases where the nail is heavily infected the cream may appear to be working but only on the surface.

The fungus below will still live quite comfortably deeper below in the nail.  You may have greater success though if you file away as much of the nail as possible with a file or emery board and then apply the cream regularly. Unlikely though.

Why Does Tea Tree Oil Work?

Contrary to creams, there are natural oils that can penetrate deep into the nail.  One particular oil that has scientific evidence is derived from the Australian Tea Tree (Melaleuca Alternifolia).

This oil is extracted from the leaves and stems of the plant using a steam distillation process.

Tea Tree Oil has growing considerable evidence in its ability to fight infectious agents like bacteria, viruses and in particular fungi.

After all, nature has its own ways to fight and prevent fungal infections for thousands of years.

It has been in recent decades that consumers are demanding more natural approaches to medicine and thus a new trend to investigate the properties of plants and animals for medical research.

Most of us have heard that plants and animals have proven to hold some vital proteins in curing many of our diseases today and leading to break though technologies.

With the evidence of Tea Tree Oil having such high antifungal qualities it is no wonder why some drug companies have pursued this plants extracts and found a way to harness its ability.

ZetaClear is one such product and it comes in oil form and not a nail fungus cream.  This product also contains many other naturally antifungal agents from Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Lemongrass Oil, Undecylenic Acid, and Clove Oil. More detailed information can be found here.
